BSU marks International Francophonie Day
Department of the German and French Languages of Baku State University has initiated an event “Francophonie of the Future”, dedicated to the International Francophonie Day.
The event was attended by the Executive director of the l'Institut Français d'Azerbaïdjan Hakan Jonathan Unlu, BSU faculty members and students.
Dean of the Faculty of Philology of BSU Elchin Mammadov spoke about the relations between France and Azerbaijan in the field of education. He stressed the need to introduce double degree and exchange programs between BSU and French universities.
The Executive director of the l'Institut Français d'Azerbaïdjan Hakan Jonathan Unlu said that this year’s theme, “Francophonie of the future”, highlights the support to youth and their aspirations, including in areas of sustainable development, entrepreneurship and digital technology.
The Head of the Department of the German and French Languages of Baku State University Elmira Farajullayeva made reports on the promotion of the French language in Azerbaijan.
Azelma Hasanova made presentation on the life and work of Ahmed bey Agaoglu, a graduate of the Sorbonne University of France, the first teacher of French in Azerbaijan. A documentary about this outstanding writer and public figure was presented at the event.
At the end of the event Hakan Jonathan Unlu donated books to the Department of the German and French Languages.
