A lecture titled "Geology from the Past to the Present: Development and Prospects" was held at the Department of Geology of Baku State University (BSU). The session was conducted by Academician Akif Alizade, Director General of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics under the Ministry of Science and Education.

Opening the event, Dean Mamoy Mansurov spoke about the long-standing scientific traditions of BSU in the field of geology. He highlighted the department's pivotal role as a hub for geological research and talent development in Azerbaijan. Dean Mansurov underscored the immense contributions of Academician Akif Alizade, describing him as not only a distinguished scientist and academic leader, but also a mentor and founder of a prominent geological school that continues to inspire generations of students and young researchers.

In his keynote address, Academician Alizade traced the historical development of geology, emphasizing its significance within both global and Azerbaijani scientific communities. He shared insights from his research in paleontology and stratigraphy, highlighting key findings and their implications. The academician also stressed that geology goes far beyond the exploration of natural resources—it plays a vital role in environmental protection, disaster forecasting, and sustainable development.

Academician Vasif Babazade, Head of the Department of Mineral Resources, also addressed the audience. He provided an overview of current geological research on mineral deposits, discussing their industrial relevance and the progress made in this field. He emphasized the importance of integrating practical training into academic programs and promoting field-based research to equip students with real-world experience in Earth Sciences.
