29/04/2025

Nail Mammadov, an artificial intelligence specialist at SOCAR, met with students from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics and the SABAH groups at Baku State University (BSU).

The event began with opening remarks from Associate Professor Mubariz Khalilov, Head of the Department of Informatics. He emphasized that artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming a vital component of national security for countries worldwide. He noted that Azerbaijan is also taking significant steps in this direction, highlighting the recent adoption of the Artificial Intelligence Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2025–2028 on March 19. This strategic document places important responsibilities on the nation’s scientific and educational institutions.
Following the introduction, Nail Mammadov delivered a presentation titled “Forecasting with Sequential Models and Time Series.” He explained the fundamental principles of sequential models and time-dependent data, introducing key concepts related to time series and their applications in areas such as finance, meteorology, and technology forecasting.

The session covered the main characteristics of time series, including trends, seasonality, autocorrelation, and random noise. Special attention was given to the challenges of working with non-stationary data and strategies for managing such complexities. Mammadov also discussed statistical approaches for removing seasonality and bias, measuring forecasting errors, and implementing data segmentation methods.

The seminar concluded with an interactive Q&A session, during which Nail Mammadov addressed a wide range of questions from students.
