Associate Professor from Karadeniz Technical University Conducts Seminar at BSU
Associate Professor Murat Erdem Guzel from Karadeniz Technical University, Türkiye, hosted an online seminar titled "Using the Methodology of Multi-Sample Analysis for the Study of Plant Molecular Taxonomy" at the Faculty of Biology, Baku State University (BSU). The seminar was held in celebration of March 27 - Science Day.
During the event, Dean of the Faculty, Afet Mammadova, provided insights into innovations in molecular taxonomy, highlighting the significance of the multi-sampling method and the value of discussing its practical applications.
In his presentation, Murat Erdem Guzel emphasized the potential of molecular techniques to enhance the accuracy of plant taxonomy studies. He explained that the multi-sampling methodology is crucial for the precise identification of endemic species and for understanding their evolutionary history. As an example, he highlighted research on Nonea bakuensis, an endemic plant of Azerbaijan, to demonstrate the importance of this approach.
The seminar also explored the concept of the phylogenetic tree and its pivotal role in systematic research.
