Associate Professor of Comrat University, Moldova delivers lecture at BSU
Gullu Karanfil, Associate Professor of Comrat University, has delivered a lecture on “Gagauz Language, Literature and Culture” for BSU students and faculty members. The event was jointly organized by Faculty of Oriental Studies of Baku State University (BSU) and Comrat University of Moldova.
Gullu Karanfil said that the Gagauz are Turkic people living mostly in southern Moldova. Outside Moldova, a minority of Gagauz people live in the Ukraine, Bulgaria, Greece, Kazakhstan, Russia and Brazil. Gagauz are mostly Eastern Orthodox Christians. She also noted that in ancient times, the Gagauz Turks lived on the Black Sea coast and in the nearby regions - Edirne, Kirklareli, Burgaz, Varna, Balchik, Kavarna, Shabla, Izmail, Tulka, Akkerman, Tuzla, Kiliya, Bender.
