Attention Baku State University Students
University of Haifa is accepting applications for the following master’s degree programs:
Master’s Program in Maritime Civilizations (1 place)
The Maritime Civilizations program focuses on archaeology and aims to study the material culture, economy, and social structures of societies that developed in marine and coastal environments using scientific and archaeological methods. Graduates are awarded a master’s degree in the humanities.
The program lasts 1+1 years and focuses on maritime archaeology, coastal archaeology, and underwater archaeological research. The curriculum includes the study of sea-related archaeological sites such as port facilities, submerged settlements, shipwrecks, coastal infrastructure, and artifacts related to maritime trade.
Students gain both theoretical and practical knowledge in:
• archaeological research methods in marine environments
• underwater and coastal excavation techniques
• interpretation of shipbuilding traditions
• reconstruction of historical maritime trade routes
• coastal landscape archaeology
One of the program’s major advantages is the university’s cooperation with internationally recognized research centers in maritime archaeology. Students receive practical training in underwater archaeology, coastal research, and the protection of maritime cultural heritage, and may participate in real archaeological projects in the Mediterranean region.
Admission requirements
Applicants with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the following fields may apply:
• archaeology
• history
• anthropology
• classical studies
• Near Eastern studies (with basic knowledge of archaeology)
Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical abilities, interest in field and research work, and academic potential.
Master’s Program in Archaeometrics (Archaeological Science) (1 place)
The Archaeometrics (Archaeological Science) program is a research-intensive master’s program that applies natural and exact science methods to archaeological research. Graduates receive a master’s degree in the field of exact sciences.
The program lasts 2+1 years and is based on chemistry and physics. The curriculum includes:
• compositional analysis of archaeological materials (ceramics, metals, glass, stone, etc.)
• study of ancient production technologies
• dating methods
• isotope analysis
• laboratory-based scientific interpretation of archaeological materials
Students will study modern archaeometric approaches at the intersection of archaeology, chemistry, physics, geology, and computer science, while receiving extensive laboratory training and working on an independent research thesis.
An important advantage of the program is cooperation with Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. Within this partnership, students participate in practical courses in advanced laboratories and gain access to high-precision equipment such as SEM microscopes, confocal microscopes, and other physicochemical analysis systems.
Admission requirements
Applicants with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the following fields may apply:
• chemistry
• physics
• materials science
• geology
• archaeology (with basic knowledge of exact sciences)
Candidates should demonstrate analytical thinking, interest in laboratory research, and strong academic potential.
Education is free of charge. Students will be provided with accommodation and a scholarship.
