Azerbaijan Railways Holds Environmental Information Session for BSU Students
Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) held an information session for students of Baku State University (BSU) in honor of World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5.
Opening the event, Akif Agbabali, Dean of the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science at BSU, spoke about innovative environmental initiatives underway across the country. He highlighted the significant role ADY plays in environmental protection and emphasized the ongoing successful collaboration between the faculty and ADY, including regular informational excursions and sessions.
Humay Abdullayeva, Head of the Environmental Protection Department at ADY, delivered a detailed presentation covering the environmental impact of the transport sector and the ecological advantages of railway systems. She discussed the role of transportation in greenhouse gas emissions, Azerbaijan’s potential for railway decarbonization, and ADY’s efforts to reduce emissions in the fight against climate change.
Abdullayeva also introduced participants to recent innovations such as the Balajari scrubber-evaporator system, the adoption of alternative energy sources, the expansion of electrified transport infrastructure, waste management strategies, and paper reduction efforts in railway operations. Additionally, she outlined the benefits of implementing the ISO 14001:2015 environmental management standard.
