The opening ceremony of the Azerbaijan–Korea Computer Science Center was held at Baku State University (BSU). Established within the university’s Information Support Center with the support of BSU and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, the new center is expected to strengthen educational and research activities in the fields of information technology, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.

The establishment of the Center aligns with the objectives set out in the Action Plan for Accelerating Digital Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026–2028, which prioritizes the expansion of digitalization, e-government, artificial intelligence, and innovation. The initiative also reflects broader efforts to enhance institutional capacity in this area, including the creation of the Digital Development Council.

Addressing the ceremony, BSU Rector Elchin Babayev emphasized that the establishment of the Center reflects strong state support for innovation and the digitalization of higher education. He noted that the Center will play a key role in training specialists capable of addressing contemporary challenges in three priority areas: cybersecurity, cryptography, and artificial intelligence. The newly established modern infrastructure is expected to enhance practical training, foster innovative thinking, and equip students with competencies aligned with the demands of the global labor market.

In his remarks, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Azerbaijan Kang Kimgu highlighted the steady development of Azerbaijan–Korea cooperation in education and technology, emphasizing BSU’s important role in this process. He noted that the Azerbaijan–Korea Computer Science Center is expected to serve as an important platform for strengthening bilateral relations, while also contributing to the development of the IT and cybersecurity sectors in Azerbaijan and supporting the role of students as a bridge in advancing Azerbaijan–Korea relations.
