Baku State University Hosts "Day of Chinese Culture"
The Confucius Institute at Baku State University (BSU) hosted the "Day of Chinese Culture," commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Confucius Institute’s global initiatives.
At the event, Aidan Handan, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, highlighted that BSU has offered a "Regional Studies" program focused on China since 2004. In 2011, BSU’s partnership with Anhui University led to the establishment of the Confucius Institute, which promotes Chinese language and cultural studies. Each year, the Confucius Institute organizes the "Chinese Bridge" international language competition, offering winners a chance to represent Azerbaijan in China. Additionally, in 2022, BSU’s Faculty of Oriental Studies launched a "Chinese Philology" program.
The dean also emphasized BSU's strong collaboration with Chinese universities and announced a new joint bachelor's program in "International Chinese Language Education," established through a trilateral agreement with the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education of China and Anhui University.
Wang Haoqiang, Co-Director of the Confucius Institute at BSU, spoke on the institute's mission to provide quality Chinese language education and to expand academic, cultural, and scientific exchanges between Azerbaijan and China. The institute enables BSU students to study Chinese, participate in cultural activities, pursue further education in China, and attend summer schools there.
During the event, students from the Faculty of Oriental Studies performed traditional Chinese dances and songs. The program also included a traditional tea ceremony and demonstrations of Chinese folk games.
