21/04/2026

Baku State University (BSU) has held an event titled “Urban Planning Structure of the Karabakh Region: Before and After the Occupation,” dedicated to the Year of Urban Development and Architecture.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry Taleh Gahramanov emphasized that Karabakh is one of Azerbaijan’s strategically important regions. He noted that prior to the occupation, urban development in the region was based on national architectural traditions, while the occupation period led to extensive destruction and damage to infrastructure.

Participants highlighted that the primary goal of ongoing reconstruction efforts in the liberated territories is not only restoration but also the creation of a modern living environment in line with contemporary urban planning principles. The importance of implementing “smart city” and “smart village” concepts was also underscored.

Students Aysu Imanova and Ophelia Musazade delivered presentations on the urban planning features of Karabakh, the destruction during the occupation, and current reconstruction projects. They also provided information on the restoration of historical monuments and infrastructure.

The event concluded with a video showcasing Karabakh before the occupation, the devastation during that period, and the ongoing restoration process.
