The Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and Baku State University (BSU) signed an agreement to establish ICESCO Chair on Biomedical Materials.

Biomedicine is a branch of medical science that applies biological and physiological principles to clinical practice. It is one of the priority areas for scientific research at BSU.  There are "Bioengineering" and "Microbiology and Virology" research laboratories at the newly established Excellence Center of BSU.

The Chair aims at promoting scientific research on creation and applying biomedical materials and encouraging the participation of the students, and young scientists in the field of science through workshops, and PhD research, as well as collaboration between different universities.

The signing of this agreement will strengthen the development of biomedical science not only in Azerbaijan but throughout the Islamic World. Because the department aims to conduct research work on biomedical materials, attract students and young scientists from ICESCO member states and open up to the world through agreements with centers from different countries.

The agreement allows the Chair to develop international partnerships and education on research, innovation and activities related to biomedical materials in the future by increasing the participation of researchers, conducting research and research work within the priorities of the Chair and attracting young researchers from ICESCO Member States to create new materials and technology for the benefit of their countries.
