Baku State University Marks 85th Anniversary of Professor Yalchin Alizade
The Faculty of Journalism at Baku State University (BSU) hosted an event celebrating the 85th anniversary of Professor Yalchin Alizade, an esteemed journalist and academic.
Faculty Dean Vugar Aliyev highlighted Professor Alizade’s invaluable contributions to journalism education, emphasizing his long-standing role in shaping the faculty’s history. A graduate of BSU in 1962, Alizade began his career at the Azerbaijan State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting before joining academia. He defended his PhD dissertation in 1974 and went on to hold several key positions, including associate professor and head of the Department of Television and Radio Journalism (1982–1999). He also served as dean of the faculty from 1999 to 2012.
A prolific scholar, Yalchin Alizade authored around 100 scientific articles and four books on television and radio journalism. His contributions to the field earned him the title of "Honored Journalist", as well as the "Tereggi" medal and the "Emek" Order (3rd degree).
During the event, attendees watched a commemorative BSU TV video highlighting Professor Alizade’s legacy. Colleagues, former students, and family members—including faculty members and media representatives—shared heartfelt memories of his professional and personal impact.
The tribute underscored Yalchin Alizade’s enduring influence on Azerbaijani journalism and media education.
