Baku State University signs MoU with Spanish University of King Juan Carlos

Baku State University (BSU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of King Juan Carlos in Madrid, Spain.

The document was signed by BSU rector Abel Maharramov and rector of the Spanish university Javier Ramos.

The Memorandum of Understanding envisages mutually beneficial academic cooperation between the universities in all subjects.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Maharramov said Baku State University is the first higher education institution established in Azerbaijan. “The university employs a 4,000-strong staff and has a total enrollment of 22,000 students. There are also two research institutes functioning at the university. In 2019, the 100th anniversary of Baku State University will be celebrated at the international level by the decision of UNESCO.”

Ramos said the University of King Juan Carlos was founded 21 years ago. “However, it is among top universities in Spain and Europe in terms of quality of education and students` performance.” “There is also a medical faculty at the university, which admits about 150 students a year. After completing six years of education at the university, they are undergoing internships in different hospitals,” he added.

The rector of Baku State University invited his Spanish counterpart to Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani ambassador to Spain Anar Maharramov also attended the meeting.
