Bas-relief to first rector of Baku State University unveiled in Russia
A bas-relief to outstanding scientist, the first rector of Baku State University (BSU) Vasiliy Razumovsky has been unveiled in the Russian city of Essentuki.
Rector of Baku State University, academician Abel Maharramov and mayor of Essentuki Alexander Nekristov unveiled the bas-relief. Before the opening, participants of the ceremony laid a wreath at the tomb of Razumovsky. The sides signed a deal on cooperation in the field of culture and education between Baku State University and Essentuki City Administration. A stand of Baku State University opened at the Essentuki-based Regional History Museum.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Abel Maharramov said Vasiliy Razumovsky was one of the founders and first rector of Saratov State University, rector of Transcaucasian University, and later became one of the founders and first rector of Baku State University.
"Vasiliy Razumovsky is a great son of not only Russian, but also Azerbaijani people. His contribution to the development of higher education and science in Azerbaijan is invaluable. I think that today he would be glad to observe a successful, efficient and dynamic development of Baku State University,” said Maharramov.
Mayor Alexander Nekristov called Vasiliy Razumovsky “a true devotee of science.” “This man played a special role in the history of Essentuki and development of Caucasian Mineral Waters as a resort and scientific rehabilitation center… His compatriots highly appreciated his contribution to medicine and the development of the spa industry,” said Nekristov.
The event was attended by MP Mikhail Zabelin, Advisor to the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Russia Vugar Imamguliev, rector of Dagestan State University Murtazali Rabadanov, vice-rector of Chechen State University Ruslan Kutuev, director of St. George branch of Russian State Humanitarian University Vladimir Kim, and vice-rector of Southern Federal University Sergey Dyuzhikov.
