Baku State University (BSU) was represented by Advisor to the Rector, Shabnam Safarova, at the panel discussion titled “Reimagining Higher Education in the Islamic World: Innovation, Sustainability, and Global Impact”, held within the framework of the 6th Vice Chancellors’ Forum of Universities in the Islamic World (VC Forum 2025) in Rabat, Morocco.

The event was organized in partnership with the Higher Education Commission of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan (HEC), and in collaboration with the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW) and Baku State University.

In her remarks, Shabnam Safarova highlighted the strategic development priorities of BSU, emphasizing the university’s achievements in international collaboration, digital and green transformation, and scientific research. She noted that BSU's inclusion in the QS World University Rankings at 688th globally—and first in the South Caucasus—as well as its position among the top 600 universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking, demonstrates the university’s successful integration into the global academic and research landscape.

She further stressed the importance of initiatives such as mutual recognition of academic degrees, the establishment of a unified quality assurance system, the development of joint digital platforms, and the expansion of student and faculty mobility programs among member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

Concluding her address, Safarova underlined that higher education plays a vital role in shaping the moral and intellectual foundations of the future. In this context, she called on universities in the Islamic world to not only engage actively in the globalization process but also serve as custodians and promoters of universal human values.
