Baku State University (BSU) and the Clean Energy Center of the Economic Cooperation Organization (CECECO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation.

The document was signed by BSU Rector Elchin Babayev and CECECO Executive Director Aysel Yagubova.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Rector Elchin Babayev emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches particular importance to green energy and the development of a green economy. He noted that BSU actively contributes to these priorities by expanding its research and development activities in environmental protection and climate change mitigation, as well as by implementing a range of sustainability-focused projects.

The Rector highlighted that the university has established an Eco-Energy Center that utilizes solar and wind power to promote clean energy solutions. In addition, an “Eco-Space” featuring an aquaponic system was created within the framework of COP29. Both the Eco-Space and the Student Space operate using solar energy. BSU also carries out initiatives aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Expressing confidence in the effectiveness of the newly signed memorandum, Rector Babayev noted that cooperation with the ECO Clean Energy Center will enhance specialist training in this field, facilitate the implementation of joint research projects, conferences, and training programs, and support the preparation of joint publications.

Executive Director Aysel Yagubova stated that CECECO serves as a platform for promoting and coordinating initiatives in sustainable energy, energy transition, and energy efficiency. She provided detailed information about the Center’s ongoing projects and underscored the importance of collaboration with BSU in the fields of renewable and green energy, energy efficiency, and nuclear energy.
