BSU and Gobustan National Historical and Cultural Reserve Sign Memorandum
Baku State University (BSU) and the Gobustan National Historical and Cultural Reserve have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation as part of the International Interdisciplinary Seminar “Unveiling the Archaeological Secrets of Gobustan through Geophysical Methods,” held at BSU.
The document was signed by BSU Rector Elchin Babayev and Director of the Gobustan National Historical and Cultural Reserve Vugar Isayev.
Under the memorandum, BSU and the Reserve will cooperate in the research, documentation, digitization, preservation and promotion of archaeological sites, rock art and other forms of cultural heritage.
The parties will explore the archaeological and cultural potential of the Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape through interdisciplinary research involving geophysics, archaeology, history, geography, geology, information technology, remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), artificial intelligence and other fields. They will also conduct joint expeditions and field research.
The memorandum further provides for the involvement of BSU students, master’s and doctoral students, and researchers in research and practical activities related to archaeological and cultural heritage, as well as efforts to promote Gobustan’s research potential within the local and international academic community.
