BSU Astrophysicists: Geomagnetic Storm Expected on July 30-31

29/07/2024

Over the past three days, due to several solar flares, solar activity has reached a high level, and two coronal mass ejections have been observed heading towards Earth.

According to the Department of Astrophysics at the Faculty of Physics of Baku State University (BSU), the first coronal mass ejection will approach Earth at the end of the day on July 30. The second coronal mass ejection will create a sliding effect from July 31 to August 1.

Until July 31, solar activity is likely to be accompanied by X-class flares. The activity of the charged particle flux will be at a background level. On July 29, the geomagnetic level was at G1 (minor) storm level due to the coronal mass ejection that occurred on July 27. On July 30-31, the geomagnetic storm will be at G2 (moderate) level. No other coronal mass ejections directed towards Earth have been observed.
