BSU Astrophysicists: "Geomagnetic Storm Expected Until September 11"

09/09/2024

Solar activity has intensified due to M-class and other solar flares, with spacecraft observing coronal mass ejections heading toward Earth.

According to the Department of Astrophysics at the Physics Faculty of Baku State University (BSU), solar activity on September 10-11 is expected to be at the M level (R1-R2, moderate to average) and could potentially reach the X level (R3, strong).

The geomagnetic storm is currently moderate.

The storm is forecasted to intensify to the G1 level (weak) starting at approximately 17:00 on September 10. By the night of September 10 and around 06:00 on September 11, it is expected to reach the G2 level (moderate).

Starting at approximately 13:00 on September 11, the geomagnetic field is predicted to return to normal levels.

The geomagnetic storm will be most noticeable at high latitudes, with moderate effects expected in middle latitudes.
