BSU Astrophysicists: June Bootids Meteor Shower to Be Visible
The June Bootids meteor shower will be observable from June 22 to July 2.
The information was released by the Department of Astrophysics of Baku State University (BSU).
According to the department, the meteor shower is expected to reach its peak on June 27 at approximately 9:00 p.m. Baku time.
The June Bootids are considered a highly variable meteor shower. In most years, peak activity produces only one to five meteors per hour. However, historical records show occasional outbursts of exceptional activity. In 1916, observers reported hundreds of meteors per hour, while activity reached approximately 50–100 meteors per hour in 1998 and 20–50 meteors per hour in 2004.
For 2026, astronomers expect the shower to exhibit weak to moderate activity. In addition, the Moon will be close to its full phase during the peak period, and its bright light may make faint meteors more difficult to observe.
