BSU Astrophysicists Release Geomagnetic Activity Forecast for the Holiday Period
The Department of Astrophysics of the Faculty of Physics at Baku State University (BSU) has released a geomagnetic activity forecast for the holiday period.
Solar activity is currently at a low-to-moderate level. Although M-class solar flares (R1–R2), which may disrupt radio signal propagation, have been observed in various regions of the Sun's surface, they are not expected to have any impact on Earth.
According to the four-day forecast, the geomagnetic field is expected to remain at normal background levels and generally quiet at mid-latitudes through November 12. The Kp index, which measures geomagnetic activity on a 10-point scale, is forecast to range between 4 and 3 on November 9–10, and between 3 and 2 on November 11–12. At high latitudes, the index is expected to reach 4–5.
From November 9 to 12, the geomagnetic field at mid-latitudes, including across Azerbaijan, is expected to remain predominantly stable or slightly unsettled, with generally quiet conditions prevailing. The likelihood of a strong or severe geomagnetic storm affecting Earth during this period is extremely low. No major geomagnetic storms are expected.
