BSU Astrophysicists: Summer in Azerbaijan to Begin on June 21
According to astrophysicists from the Faculty of Physics at Baku State University (BSU), astronomical summer in Azerbaijan will begin on June 21 at 12:24:26 p.m. Baku time.
At this moment, the summer solstice will occur in the Northern Hemisphere, marking the beginning of astronomical summer, while astronomical winter will commence in the Southern Hemisphere.
During the summer solstice, the angle between the Earth's rotational axis and the direction toward the Sun reaches its minimum value. As a result, the Sun attains its highest position in the sky for the year. In Baku, the Sun's altitude above the horizon at solar noon will reach its annual maximum of 73.1°.
June 21 will be the longest day and the shortest night of the year. Daylight will last 15 hours, 3 minutes, and 24 seconds, while nighttime will last 8 hours, 56 minutes, and 36 seconds.
The duration of the summer season this year will be 93 days, 15 hours, 40 minutes, and 42 seconds.
