BSU Celebrates 80th Anniversary of Distinguished Folklorist Azad Nabiyev
Baku State University (BSU) hosted a scientific session marking the 80th anniversary of renowned folklorist and Corresponding Member of ANAS, Azad Nabiyev.
Opening the event, Head of the Department of Folklore at BSU, Seher Orujova, highlighted Azad Nabiyev’s significant contributions to Azerbaijani folklore studies. She noted that the department he founded stands as a testament to his scientific and organizational excellence.
Deputy Chairman of the Academic Council for the Humanities at ANAS, Academician Teymur Kerimli, recalled his acquaintance with Azad Nabiyev during postgraduate studies, praising him as a dedicated teacher and scholar whose scientific legacy remains highly relevant today. He emphasized that many of Nabiyev’s students continue to thrive in academia and research.
Director of the Institute of Folklore at ANAS, Associate Professor Hikmet Guliyev, shared personal reflections, noting that Nabiyev had supervised his diploma and dissertation work, inspiring his own scientific career in folklore studies.
Throughout the session, additional reports were presented by Professor Ramil Aliyev, Associate Professor Etibar Talibly, Associate Professor Galib Sayilov, and Associate Professor Kamala Islamzade.
Later, colleagues who had worked closely with Azad Nabiyev, including Professor Jalil Nagiyev, Head of Department at the Institute of Folklore, Professor Seyfeddin Rzasoy, and Associate Professor Magerram Veliyev, shared their memories of the distinguished scholar.
A video presentation showcasing the life and scientific achievements of Azad Nabiyev was also featured during the event.
On behalf of the family, his daughter, Doctor of Philological Sciences and BSU faculty member Ulkar Nabiyeva, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the organizers and participants of the session.
