BSU Conducts Research on the Digitization of Urban Planning Documentation
As part of the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture,” the Faculty of Information and Document Management of Baku State University (BSU) held a regular scientific seminar. At the event, Aliyusif Mammadov, a lecturer at the Department of Document Management, delivered a presentation titled “Digitalization of Architectural and Urban Planning Documentation in the Smart City Concept.”
The speaker emphasized the importance of declaring 2026 the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture,” highlighting the particular relevance of research in this field.
The presentation noted that modern cities are increasingly shaped by digital information flows. Key components of the Smart City concept were examined, including the role of digital technologies in urban planning and architectural processes, as well as the digitization of documentary resources. It was подчеркнуто that the effective management of information flows and the systematic integration of documents into electronic environments are essential requirements for contemporary urban planning.
The presentation also addressed the digitization of urban planning documents, their integration into unified information systems, and their practical application. The relationship between documentary and digital resources was analyzed, with an emphasis on how this approach supports effective urban planning, optimal resource management, and informed decision-making.
The seminar further explored the application of metadata standards, information security measures, open data platforms, and the role of libraries and information institutions in the digitization of architectural and urban planning documentation within a Smart City framework.
