BSU Dean Delivers Lecture to Students at Bartin University, Türkiye
The Dean of the Faculty of Information and Document Management at Baku State University (BSU), Associate Professor Alamdar Jabbarli, delivered an introductory lecture to students of the Information and Document Management program at Bartin University, Türkiye, marking the start of the 2024/2025 academic year.
The lecture, titled "Library Education in Azerbaijan", provided an overview of the evolution and development of library education in Azerbaijan. It was highlighted that library education initially began as library courses and later expanded into technical schools. A significant milestone was reached in the 1947/1948 academic year when the Department of Library Science was established within the Philological Faculty of BSU. In August 1962, BSU founded an independent Faculty of Library Science.
The lecture also discussed the faculty's recent changes. On January 18, 2023, the Academic Council of BSU officially renamed the faculty to the Faculty of Information and Document Management. Since the 2023/2024 academic year, the faculty has introduced new programs, including Museum, Archival Science, and Preservation of Monuments, alongside the existing Library Science and Information Activities program.
The event attracted participation from professors and students representing around 10 universities in Türkiye, all of which offer training in related fields. Professor Jabbarli’s presentation sparked numerous questions from the audience, and discussions focused on the lecture’s topic and potential avenues for future collaboration.
