BSU Department of Astrophysics: "A Geomagnetic Storm Is Being Observed"

07/11/2025

The Department of Astrophysics at the Faculty of Physics of Baku State University (BSU) has reported increased solar activity and the onset of a geomagnetic storm.

According to the department, high solar activity is expected on November 7–8 due to solar flares occurring in the Sun’s southern hemisphere. M-class flares have intensified the activity, potentially disrupting radio signals by 70–80% on November 8 and by 30–35% on November 9.

The report notes that at high latitudes, the geomagnetic storm on November 7 will reach a magnitude of 6–7 on the Kp index (on a 10-point scale), gradually weakening and returning to normal background levels in the following days. At mid-latitudes, including Azerbaijan, the storm is expected to reach magnitude 6 on the Kp index before subsiding to normal levels.
