BSU Discusses the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Psychotherapy

A scientific and methodological seminar titled “Analysis of Artificial Intelligence from a Psychological Perspective and Innovative Applications in Psychotherapeutic Interventions” was held at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Psychology at Baku State University (BSU).

The seminar, led by David Poladov, Supervisor of Eclectic Psychotherapy and Lecturer in the Department of Psychology, explored the impact of artificial intelligence on the advancement of psychological science and its potential applications in psychotherapy. Participants compared AI with core concepts of cognitive psychology such as perception, attention, decision-making, and cognitive structures. Drawing on the theoretical frameworks of Endel Tulving and Herbert Simon, the seminar also examined cognitive parallels between human and machine intelligence.

The discussion addressed key issues including the use of AI technologies in psychotherapy, the automation of empathy and reflection, ethical responsibility, and information security. New interpretations of classical psychological theories within a modern technological context were presented, highlighting the scientific understanding of human–machine interaction in therapeutic models.
