BSU Evaluates Ecological Conditions in the Khakarichay River Basin
A scientific seminar on the Quantitative and Qualitative Assessment of the Dynamic State of Forest and Vegetation Cover in the Khakarichay River Basin During the Occupation was conducted by Gunel Heydarzade, a PhD student at the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science at Baku State University (BSU). The study focused on the territories of the Lachin, Gubadli, and Zangilan districts.
The seminar analyzed the ecological dynamics of the Khakarichay River basin, examining its connection to the regional hydrological regime and presenting key findings. Using satellite data, researchers assessed forest cover and vegetation changes through the NDVI index and calculated field indicators. Diagrams illustrating river network fluctuations and hydrological conditions in the region were developed, along with dynamic maps visualizing the MNDWI water content index.
Additionally, the study evaluated aerosol content in the Lachin, Gubadli, and Zangilan districts, analyzed shifts in the NDVI index, and explored the impact of hydrological changes on forest and vegetation cover. An electronic map was also created, incorporating layers representing the earth’s surface relief and its derivatives.
