The state visit of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to the Republic of Uzbekistan marked an important milestone in the development of the friendly, fraternal relations and strategic partnership between the two countries. The signing of the Treaty of Eternal Friendship between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, along with a number of other documents, in Tashkent, in the presence of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, has created new opportunities for further expanding bilateral cooperation, including in science and education.

Building on the longstanding historical, cultural, and humanitarian ties between the two countries, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have in recent years entered a new stage of institutional cooperation in higher education and research. Baku State University (BSU) is actively contributing to this process.

BSU continues to expand its partnerships with higher education and research institutions across Uzbekistan. To date, the university has signed memoranda of understanding and other cooperation agreements with 44 higher education and research institutions in Uzbekistan. Cooperation has intensified particularly in 2024–2026, with a growing focus on academic mobility, joint research, and institutional partnerships.

Looking ahead, BSU plans to further strengthen cooperation with leading universities and research institutions in Uzbekistan. Key priorities include expanding academic mobility for students, doctoral students, faculty members, and researchers; broadening exchange programs; developing dual-degree and joint educational programs; increasing the number of joint research projects and publications; organizing international conferences and academic events; and establishing new platforms for young researchers.

BSU’s cooperation with Uzbekistan thus extends beyond individual visits and events and is developing into a sustainable institutional partnership encompassing academic exchange, joint educational programs, research and scientific publications, international conferences, and cultural and humanitarian initiatives. This growing network of partnerships contributes to strengthening academic and scientific ties between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan and supports the further development of strategic relations between the two countries.
