BSU Expands Cooperation with Universities in Kazakhstan

Baku State University (BSU) continues to strengthen its academic partnerships with universities in Kazakhstan. Of BSU’s 12 double-degree programs, four are implemented in collaboration with institutions from the fraternal country.

Since 2020, BSU and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University have jointly offered a double-degree program in "Maritime and Energy Law". Additionally, under an agreement with K.I.Satbayev Kazakh National Research Technical University, BSU’s Faculty of Chemistry and Institute of Chemistry and Biotechnology at K.I.Satbayev Kazakh National Research Technical University have been implementing a double-degree program in "Petrochemistry". In 2022, BSU launched a double-degree program in "Biotechnology" with L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University and another in "International Relations" at the bachelor’s level in partnership with S. Yessenov.Caspian University of Technology and Engineering.

To date, BSU has signed memorandums of cooperation with nearly 20 universities in Kazakhstan, further solidifying its academic ties.

At an event held at ADA University, dedicated to "Expanding Cooperation in Higher Education between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan", BSU signed a new memorandum with eight Kazakhstani universities, namely:

  • S. Yessenov Caspian University of Technology and Engineering
  • E.A. Buketov Karaganda State University
  • Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University
  • Alikhan Bokeikhan University
  • K. Zhubanov Aktobe Regional University
  • D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University
  • Karaganda Industrial University
  • Almaty University of Management

During the event, BSU Rector Elchin Babayev proposed expanding double and even triple-degree programs, particularly at the bachelor’s and master’s levels. He emphasized the importance of joint research infrastructure, open access to scientific data, and shared use of educational and research facilities. Additionally, Babayev highlighted the need to develop doctoral programs and one-year research internships, expressing confidence that such initiatives will create new academic and scientific opportunities for both Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

Starting in the 2024-2025 academic year, the Department of the History of Turkic Peoples within BSU’s Faculty of History has introduced a new "Regional Studies (Kazakhstan)" program.

Currently, 13 students from Kazakhstan are pursuing their studies at BSU, reflecting the university’s growing appeal among international students from the region.
