BSU Explores Challenges in Petrology and Ore Geology

11/03/2025

A scientific seminar on “Current Problems of Petrology and Ore Geology” was held at the Geological Faculty of Baku State University (BSU). The event, led by Professor Nazim Imamverdiyev, Head of the Department of General and Historical Geology, was dedicated to March 27—Science Day.

During the seminar, Professor Imamverdiyev provided an in-depth analysis of magma formation, crystallization conditions, evolution, and the classification of igneous rocks. He also discussed the role of geochemical data in understanding rock formation and introduced modern approaches to classifying ore deposits and their genetic models.

He emphasized the importance of geochemical analysis in the study of igneous rocks, noting that such analyses help determine the geodynamic conditions of rock formation and contribute to the development of genetic petrological models.

Regarding ore deposits, Professor Imamverdiyev stressed the need for precise classification, distinguishing between epithermal and porphyry-epithermal types. Further differentiation between low-sulfide and high-sulfide deposits is crucial, as accurate classification can facilitate the discovery of new mineral resources.

The seminar highlighted the latest methodologies in petrology and ore geology, reinforcing the role of scientific research in advancing geological exploration.
