The Faculty of Philology at Baku State University (BSU) comprises 12 departments: the Department of History of Azerbaijani Literature, Department of History of Russian Literature, Department of Azerbaijani Linguistics, Department of Methods of Teaching the Azerbaijani Language and Literature, Department of Turkology, Department of General Linguistics, Department of Russian Linguistics, Department of World Literature, Department of Russian Language, Department of English (for the Faculties of Natural Sciences), Department of English (for the Faculties of Humanities), and the Department of German and French Languages. The Faculty also includes four research laboratories.

At the undergraduate level, the Faculty trains specialists in seven programs:Teaching Azerbaijani Language and Literature;

• Philology (Azerbaijani Language and Literature);
• Teaching Language and Literature (Russian Language);
• Philology (Russian Language and Literature);
• Philology (German Language and Literature);
• Philology (French Language and Literature);
• Philology (English Language and Literature).

Graduates of the Teaching Azerbaijani Language and Literature and Teaching Language and Literature (Russian Language) programs can work as teachers in general secondary education institutions, including schools, lyceums, and gymnasiums.

Graduates of the Philology (Azerbaijani Language and Literature), Philology (Russian Language and Literature), Philology (German Language and Literature), Philology (French Language and Literature), and Philology (English Language and Literature) programs can work as philology specialists and consultants at philological research institutes, government agencies, and various organizations and enterprises.

Instruction at the Faculty is conducted in Azerbaijani and Russian.
