BSU Honors Memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev
Baku State University (BSU) hosted a commemorative event dedicated to the Day of Remembrance for National Leader, Heydar Aliyev.
The event began with participants laying flowers at the bust of the Great Leader in the university foyer, paying tribute to his memory with deep respect. The commemoration then continued in the university's assembly hall.
BSU Rector Elchin Babayev opened the event with a speech, emphasizing that Heydar Aliyev’s legacy in statehood is a vital subject for study, promotion, and implementation. He highlighted that the periods of Aliyev's leadership of Azerbaijan are inscribed in golden letters in the nation’s history, representing eras of construction, progress, and comprehensive development.
Rector Babayev also emphasized that President Ilham Aliyev, as a worthy successor, continues Heydar Aliyev’s political vision. Under his leadership, Azerbaijan achieved historic victories, including the liberation of territories occupied for 30 years during the 44-day Patriotic War. The country’s sovereignty was restored in a decisive anti-terrorist operation lasting less than a day. These achievements, the rector noted, were made possible by the solid foundations laid by Heydar Aliyev, including the strengthening of national spirit, the promotion of Azerbaijanism, and reforms in the army.
Today, large-scale reconstruction and development projects are underway in the liberated territories, symbolizing the revival of life in these regions. Azerbaijan continues to host global events, showcasing the wisdom of its people and the strength of its state.
The event also featured remarks by Milli Majlis deputy and member of the BSU Public Control Council Amina Aghazade, Milli Majlis deputy Aydin Huseynov, and Dean of the Faculty of History Ibrahim Zeynalov.
The commemoration concluded with a screening of the Azerbaijan State Television film The Winner Writing History. The film’s script was authored by Mahir Garibov, a lecturer at BSU's Faculty of Journalism.
