BSU Hosted Event Dedicated to the 150th Anniversary of Ziya Gökalp

An event titled “Ziya Gökalp – 150: Ideas, Heritage, and the Turkic World” was held at Baku State University, jointly organized by the university’s Faculty of Oriental Studies and the Yunus Emre Institute.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Farid Nagiyev noted that Ziya Gökalp holds a special place in the history of Turkic thought and that his ideas continue to maintain their relevance in the modern process of integration within the Turkic world.

Coordinator of the Yunus Emre Institute in Azerbaijan Gökhan Seyhan emphasized that such events contribute to the development of pan-Turkic culture and the strengthening of scientific cooperation.

Director of the Institute of Turkic Studies at Hacettepe University, Yunus Koç, spoke about Ziya Gökalp’s scholarly approach to the Turkic world, as well as his views on national identity and modernization.

The event also featured speeches by Aydan Khandan, Head of the Department of Balkan Studies at Baku Slavic University Nurlana Gasimly Mustafayeva, and Editor-in-Chief of the Ataturk Center in Azerbaijan, journalist and poet Deyanet Osmanli.
