BSU Hosts 9th International Conference “Modern Trends in Physics”
Baku State University (BSU) is hosting the 9th International Scientific Conference “Modern Trends in Physics.”
The event is co-organized by BSU together with leading universities and research institutions, including Orta Doğu Technical University, Ankara University, Gazi University, Ege University, and Kocaeli University (Türkiye); Anhui University (China); the Institute of Applied Physics of Moldova State University; Case Western Reserve University (USA); COMSATS University and the University of Lahore (Pakistan); the University of Szeged (Hungary); and the National Institute of Materials Physics (Romania).
Speaking at the opening ceremony, BSU Vice-Rector Huseyn Mamedov noted that holding the conference in the same year as the 5th anniversary of the Victory in the Patriotic War and the Year of Constitution and Sovereignty gives the event special significance. He emphasized that the conference, organized since 2009, expands its scale each year. This year, the event has brought together representatives from 21 countries, including Azerbaijan, Türkiye, the United States, Romania, Italy, Hungary, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Moldova, and others. More than 300 papers have been submitted.
“BSU has always been proud of its strong scientific schools. Physics is one of the university’s five key research areas. We believe this conference will create new platforms for young scholars, highlight important scientific priorities, and further deepen international collaboration in physics,” he said.
A video about BSU was then presented to participants.
Advisor to the Minister of Science and Education Nijat Mammadli stressed that BSU is the leading institution in Azerbaijan for fundamental science research. He underlined that conferences of this scale strengthen international cooperation in physics, unite researchers, and foster new scientific directions:
“The development of society is possible only through science—its transformation and its impact on daily life and the economy. Increasing the role of scientific research, recognizing scientists with outstanding achievements, and creating mechanisms to engage young people in research are among the ministry’s key priorities.”
Other speakers included Arif Gashimov, Director General of the Institute of Physics of the Ministry of Science and Education; Professor Amirullah Mamedov of Bilkent University (Türkiye); Stefano Bellucci, Head of the Frascati National Laboratory of Italy’s National Institute of Nuclear Physics; a representative of the National Institute of Materials Physics of Romania; Shemseddin Altındal, Professor at Gazi University; and Muhammad Iftikhar Khan, Dean of the Physics Department at Lahore University.
Presentations were also delivered by Professor Iman Eskerbeyli of Ankara University, Professor Umit Deniz Göker of Istanbul Beykent University, Alexei Meshalkin, Scientific Secretary of the Institute of Applied Physics of Moldova State University, and Professor Muhammad Ajaz of Marian University (Pakistan).
The conference continues with thematic breakout sessions.
