The Azerbaijani final of the 24th International “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition was held at Baku State University (BSU). The event was jointly organized by the Confucius Institute at BSU and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in Azerbaijan.

BSU Rector Elchin Babayev and Chinese Ambassador Lu Mei delivered opening remarks at the ceremony.

In his speech, Rector Babayev highlighted the growing development of Azerbaijan-China relations, especially following President Ilham Aliyev’s state visit to China and the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership. He emphasized the crucial role of cultural, humanitarian, and educational initiatives in strengthening the friendship between the two nations.

Ambassador Lu Mei noted that the friendship between China and Azerbaijan has deep historical roots. She emphasized that the “Chinese Bridge” competition has been successfully held in Azerbaijan for the past ten years, expanding its reach and influence. According to the Ambassador, it has become a key symbol of humanitarian cooperation between the two countries. She also praised the Confucius Institute at BSU for training highly qualified specialists in Chinese language and for its contribution to deepening mutual understanding between the Chinese and Azerbaijani peoples.

Students from various educational institutions across Azerbaijan participated in the competition, with ten finalists showcasing not only their Chinese language proficiency but also their talents in dance, music, drawing, and acting.

Omar Mamedov, a student from BSU’s Faculty of Oriental Studies, claimed first place. His fellow BSU students Sevda Majidli won second place, while Darya Efimova and Sema Khudiyeva shared third place with Fatima Aliyeva from the Azerbaijan University of Languages. As the winner, Omar Mamedov will represent Azerbaijan at the global final of the competition, which will take place in China.
