BSU Hosts “Biomedicine: From Discovery to Application” Event
The Biomedical Research and Technology Centre of Baku State University (BSU) held a scientific event titled “Biomedicine: From Discovery to Application”, focusing on translating scientific discoveries into practical medical solutions, including AI-assisted drug development and personalised surgical planning.
Young researchers presented four innovative projects. Project GALATEA, developed by Natig Ahmadov, explores personalised 3D surgical modelling to improve surgical precision and reduce risks. Ayhan Aliyev presented research on computationally designed nanocarriers for targeted drug delivery, with a focus on metal-organic frameworks. Madina Nagiyeva introduced Mutation Compass, a tool for analysing the effects of protein mutations on three-dimensional structures, while Amin Ahmadov presented NanoOS, a platform integrating artificial intelligence, computational methods, scientific literature and laboratory research to support drug development.
Garib Murshudov, Head of the Computational Structural Biology Group at the UK Medical Research Council’s Laboratory of Molecular Biology and an honoured scientist, discussed the projects with the researchers. He offered recommendations on computational tools, scientific data reliability, research evaluation and potential collaborations to support the further development of the projects.
