BSU Hosts Event Dedicated to World Down Syndrome Day
The Faculty of Social Sciences and Psychology at Baku State University (BSU) hosted an event titled “Understanding Down Syndrome: The 21st Pulse of the World” in observance of March 21 – International Down Syndrome Day.
The event was attended by faculty members, students specializing in “Correctional Education,” as well as Parvana Huseynli, who has Down syndrome, and her mother, Nushabe Huseynli.
Sekhavet Aliyeva, Head of the Department of Psychology, delivered a report on “Social Responsibility in Relation to People with Down Syndrome,” highlighting the importance of a socially active environment for their development from an early age. Ilahe Nabiyeva, a faculty member of the department, provided a detailed overview of the history and theoretical foundations of Down syndrome. Uzeir Shafiyev, Head of the Department of Social Work, discussed state programs focused on the care, habilitation, and rehabilitation of individuals with Down syndrome.
The event also featured a video presentation created by students of the Correctional Education specialty, as well as a video showcasing a sociological study conducted in Baku on Down syndrome.
