BSU Hosts Event on "COP29 and Global Climate Change"
The Faculty of Social Sciences and Psychology at Baku State University (BSU) recently organized an event focused on "COP29 and Global Climate Change."
During the event, Dean Rovshan Javadov highlighted the international importance of Azerbaijan hosting the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) and the declaration of 2024 as the "Year of Solidarity for a Green World" by the country's president, Ilham Aliyev. The dean emphasized that hosting COP29 demonstrates Azerbaijan's leadership in global environmental policy and its commitment to combating climate change on an international scale.
Deputy Dean Nezakat Karimova and Head of the Department of Social Work Uzeyir Shafiyev addressed global environmental challenges and the root causes of climate change. They also discussed the ongoing efforts in Azerbaijan to mitigate these effects. The speakers noted that nearly 20% of Azerbaijan's territory suffered ecological destruction (ecocide) during Armenia's occupation. Today, significant projects and investments are underway to restore the ecological balance in these regions, promote a green economy, and transition to renewable energy sources.
