BSU Hosts Event on “Sustainable Development Goals and Universities” at COP29
The event titled “Sustainable Development Goals and Universities: International Cooperation Experience” took place in the Green Zone as part of COP29. It was organized by Baku State University (BSU) in collaboration with the EcoSphere Social and Ecological Center.
The event’s moderator, Shabnam Safarova, Advisor to the Rector of BSU on Digitalization and Information Technology, highlighted the significance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the UN in 2015. She emphasized their role as a universal framework to address global challenges, including poverty, inequality, climate change, and quality education. Safarova underscored the pivotal role of universities in achieving these goals through education, research, and collaboration.
Prominent speakers at the event included Asiman Ilyasov, Advisor to the Rector on Quality Assurance at BSU; Fariz Guliyev, a representative of the State Agency for Science and Higher Education; Latifa Nasibova, Acting Executive Director of the French-Azerbaijani University; and Ganira Mammadzade, Head of the Strategic Planning Department at the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction.
In his remarks, BSU Rector Elchin Babayev discussed the influence of the SDGs on university operations and extended his congratulations to participating universities for their achievements in international rankings. He highlighted these accomplishments as a testament to universities' efforts toward advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
