BSU Hosts International Conference on “Cultural Heritage of Karabakh and Zangezur in Archaeological Research”
Baku State University (BSU), in collaboration with the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology at the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS), recently held an international conference titled “Cultural Heritage of Karabakh and Zangezur in Archaeological Research.” This event honored the 90th anniversary of renowned archaeologist and Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Gudrat Ismailzade.
In his opening remarks, BSU Rector Elchin Babayev highlighted the unique contributions of BSU's archaeology school, particularly through the legacy of Gudrat Ismailzade. Babayev emphasized that continuing this work in the liberated territories is a priority for BSU, with plans to involve students in further archaeological exploration of monuments awaiting study and preservation.
Farhad Guliyev, Director of the ANAS Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, reflected on the importance of this research, particularly in the context of preserving historical traces in Karabakh and Zangezur, areas affected by past occupations.
Distinguished attendees included Anar Iskenderov, Chairman of the Science and Education Committee of the Milli Majlis and Head of the BSU Department; Fariz Ismailzade, Member of Milli Majlis and Vice-Rector of ADA University; Ibrahim Zeynalov, Dean of BSU’s History Faculty; Professor Hidayat Jafarov; Tarikh Dostiyev, Head of the Department of Archaeology and Ethnography; and Nigar Ismailzade, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies and daughter of Professor Ismailzade.
