Baku State University (BSU) recently hosted a meeting of the working group of the Commission on Natural Specialties, established to develop new educational programs.

The meeting was co-chaired by BSU Rector Elchin Babayev and Director General of the Institute of Information Technologies of the Ministry of Science and Education, Academician Rasim Aliguliyev. Members of the working group participated in discussions aimed at modernizing educational curricula.

Rector Elchin Babayev highlighted that, by order of the Minister of Science and Education, a Commission was formed to draft new educational programs based on a competency-based, student-focused approach. The working subgroups for each natural science specialty include experts from universities, research institutes of the Ministry of Science and Education, as well as representatives from both state and private enterprises. Each subgroup is chaired by an appointed specialist. Currently, these working groups are developing a revised list of specializations that align with labor market demands and the best practices of leading universities worldwide.

Academician Rasim Aliguliyev, who also serves as Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, emphasized the need to enhance human resources and integrate innovations in response to global transformations. He noted that the rapid penetration of digital technologies into various fields has necessitated a shift in perspectives on scientific and educational challenges.

The meeting proceeded with an in-depth discussion on the next steps for the development of the new educational programs.
