BSU Hosts Meeting with Distinguished Graduate and Renowned Mathematician Ugur Abdullah
A meeting was held at Baku State University (BSU) with Ugur Abdullah, a graduate of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics and Professor at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), Japan.
Dean of the Faculty, Professor Alekper Aliyev, highlighted that BSU graduates are successfully employed both in Azerbaijan and abroad, holding high-ranking positions in various fields. Among them is Ugur Abdullah — a prominent mathematician specializing in computational mathematics and optimal control, and currently a professor at OIST, Japan. Born and raised in Baku, he is the son of writer Gulhuseyn Huseynoglu. From an early age, he excelled in mathematics, physics, and sports, becoming the Azerbaijani freestyle wrestling champion and a member of the national team. Earning his PhD at 21 and Doctor of Science degree at 27, he became a professor at BSU at the age of 28. Professor Abdullah is known for solving a famous open problem posed by Kolmogorov in 1928 and has taught at leading universities in England, Germany, and the United States.
During the meeting, Professor Abdullah delivered a lecture titled “Kolmogorov’s Problem and the Wiener Criterion at Infinity for Elliptic and Parabolic Equations.” He emphasized the wide application of mathematical methods in solving problems across disciplines such as biology, chemistry, and physics.
The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where Professor Abdullah answered questions from students.
