BSU Hosts Presentation on the Sangachal Caravanserai
The Center for Cultural Heritage Studies at Baku State University (BSU) has launched a series of presentations dedicated to Azerbaijan’s national heritage sites. The first event focused on the Sangachal Caravanserai, a unique monument of the Great Silk Road.
BSU Rector Elchin Babayev emphasized the university’s commitment to researching and promoting Azerbaijan’s cultural and architectural heritage. He noted the importance of establishing the Center for Cultural Heritage Studies and highlighted ongoing academic work in this field, including publications led by the center’s director, Musa Marjanli.
During the event, Marjanli presented the center’s activities, including research projects and publications such as the journal İrs (Heritage), underscoring their role in academic and public outreach.
A historical overview of the Sangachal Caravanserai was delivered by historian Sabuhi Ahmedov, who analyzed its architectural features, historical development, and preservation challenges.
Turkish historian Prof. Ibrahim Ethem Atnur also spoke, stressing the importance of studying shared Turkic heritage and promoting Silk Road monuments at the international level.
