Baku State University (BSU) is hosting the Republican scientific conference “The Modern Turkic World: New Scientific Approaches in Oriental Studies”, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth of eminent Turkologist, Professor Rufat Rustamov.

At the opening ceremony, BSU Rector Elchin Babayev highlighted the university’s rich scholarly tradition and Professor Rustamov’s significant contribution to Turkology and the development of the Turkic world. BSU Vice-Rector Alish Agamirzayev emphasized Professor Rustamov’s role in founding the Department of Turkish Philology and his exemplary public and academic activity.

Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies Aydan Handan presented a detailed overview of the professor’s life and scholarly legacy, noting that he is the first Doctor of Sciences and Professor of the Turkish language in Azerbaijan and the author of numerous monographs, textbooks, and scientific works.

Prominent academics and public figures, including representatives of the Milli Majlis and leading research institutions, also addressed the conference. In his closing remarks, Professor Rufat Rustamov expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to serving science, education, and the nation.

The conference will continue with thematic breakout sessions.
