BSU Hosts Republican Legal Olympiad
Baku State University (BSU), with the support of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan, organized the first-ever Republican Legal Olympiad, dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s birth.
Held as part of the Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty, the event brought together students from eight higher education institutions across the country.
At the opening ceremony, Dean of the BSU Law Faculty, Professor Zaur Aliyev, noted the significance of launching the Olympiad in 2024. He emphasized that the competition was also dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the 101st anniversary of the National Leader’s birth. Looking ahead, he underscored the symbolic importance of 2025—the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution authored by Heydar Aliyev and the 5th anniversary of the Victory in the Patriotic War under the leadership of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev.
Hamid Nasibov, Head of the Sector for Youth Policy and Sports of the Presidential Administration, addressed participants, highlighting the special responsibility young lawyers bear in a sovereign and victorious nation: “I urge students to always contribute to the protection and strengthening of our independence. To preserve and build on our victory, we need experts in all branches of law, particularly international law.”
Other speakers included Talib Jafarov, Head of the Scientific and Educational Center of the Prosecutor General’s Office; Gedir Khalilov, Executive Director of the Youth Foundation; and Abbas Rzayev, Chairman of the Khazar District Court.
According to the jury’s decision, first place was awarded to the team from the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Second and third places went to the Academy of the State Customs Committee and the Police Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, respectively.
