BSU has hosted the scientific seminar "Agamusa Akhundov and philological issues" dedicated to the 90th anniversary of academician Agamusa Akhundov.

Agamusa Akhundov is prominent linguist, Merited Scientist, holder of “Shohrat” Order, laureate of the State Prize.

Head of the Department of Azerbaijani Linguistics, Professor Sanubar Abdullayeva talked about the life and scientific works of Agamusa Akhundov. She stressed that his books, including "Verb tenses in the Azerbaijani language", "Phoneme system of the Azerbaijani language", "Phonetics of the Azerbaijani language" are extremely important sources for Azerbaijani linguists.

Gismet Jafarova, PhD student of the Department of General Linguistics made presentation entitled "Agamusa Akhundov and Language theory”. She provided information about Agamusa Akhundov’s significant works such as «Introduction to Linguistics", "General Linguistics" and "Mathematical Linguistics".
Head of the Department of General Linguistics, academician Nizami Jafarov spoke about the rich scientific works of the scientist, his merits in the development of the linguistic science.

Professor of the Department of Turkology of BSU Elbrus Azizov, Associate Professor of World Literature Department Nushaba Sadikhli, faculty members of the Department of Azerbaijani Linguistics - Fikret Alizade, Nahida Hasanova and Tarana Ismayilova made speeches at the Conference. They shared information about his works devoted to grammar, theoretical linguistics, phonetics, etymology, history of language, dialectology and stylistics.
