BSU Hosts Scientific Seminar on Hasan bey Zardabi’s Philosophical Views
A scientific seminar titled "Hasan bey Zardabi's Philosophical Views on Human and Environment" was held at Baku State University (BSU) through a joint initiative of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Psychology and the Faculty of Biology.
Opening the event, Professor Afet Mammadova, Dean of the Faculty of Biology, highlighted Hasan bey Zardabi’s significant contributions to the natural sciences. She noted that environmental care and nature conservation were among Zardabi’s core principles. “His scientific works, which reflect the harmony between humanity and nature, greatly enriched natural science, particularly within Azerbaijan,” she said. “Hasan bey Zardabi appeared to foresee today's environmental issues nearly two centuries ago, urging society to engage with nature responsibly. Today, environmental protection is a top priority in national policy, and numerous state programs and laws in this field serve as a tribute to the memory of this great naturalist.”
Professor Rabiyat Aslanova, Head of the Department of History of Philosophy and Cultural Studies, spoke about Zardabi’s life and legacy, focusing on his educational work through the Ekinchi newspaper. She encouraged students to delve deeply into the works of this pioneering figure.
The seminar also featured a presentation by Elchin Sardarov, a teacher in the Department of History of Philosophy and Cultural Studies and a researcher-journalist. His report, titled "Scientific and Journalistic Activities of Hasan bey Zardabi in the Formation of Environmental Thinking in Society," examined how Zardabi’s scientific and media efforts contributed to shaping ecological awareness in the public sphere.
