BSU Hosts Seminar on AI Applications in Dance Research
A scientific seminar titled “Identifying National Elements in Dance Using Artificial Intelligence Algorithms” was held at the Faculty of History of Baku State University (BSU).
Addressing the relevance of the topic, Deputy Dean of the Faculty, Kamala Najafova, highlighted key issues arising in connection with the “Artificial Intelligence Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2025–2028.” She emphasized the growing importance of applying AI technologies in the fields of history, ethnology, archaeology, and anthropology.
The speaker, doctoral researcher at the Department of Archaeology and Ethnography Elmira Hajiyeva, explained the role of artificial intelligence technologies—particularly motion analysis, computer vision, and machine learning—in identifying distinctive features of gestures, rhythm, and national style in dance. Referring to the experiences of Türkiye and China, she noted that algorithmic approaches in this field play a significant role in safeguarding intangible cultural heritage.
The researcher also provided insights into models such as CNN, YOLO, LSTM, and RGNN, noting that since dance encompasses both spatial and temporal characteristics, the use of hybrid models (e.g., CNN+LSTM or YOLO+RGNN) enables more accurate results.
