BSU Hosts Seminar on Architecture, Urban Development, and Environmental Sustainability

03/04/2026

A scientific seminar dedicated to the “Year of Architecture and Urban Development” was held at the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science of Baku State University (BSU).

Students Arzu Askerova and Lamiya Huseynova presented a study comparing water quality in Baku and Sumgayit. Their analysis of drinking and surface water revealed higher pollution levels in Sumgayit, particularly due to petrochemical industry impacts, while urban development and transport were key factors in Baku. The speakers proposed measures such as stronger monitoring, upgraded treatment facilities, and enhanced environmental control.

Another presentation by Sakina Hajiyeva focused on the sustainable development of the Caspian Sea’s coastal areas in Azerbaijan. The study examined environmental challenges including climate change, sea level rise, and biodiversity loss, and emphasized the importance of green infrastructure and environmentally responsible urban planning.

The seminar concluded with a Q&A session, and participants were awarded certificates and books.
